Do professional breeders receive any discounts on registration?
Yes, if you have 5 or more adult animals that you register litters from. United will process registration applications, transfers of ownership, and registration papers from United and other recognize associations for $5.00.
Are health certifications mandatory?
No, we do however feel health certification of breeding stock is important. For that reason when you have had it done on animals you own and provide United the proper documentation we will include it on the registration papers and with sire and dam information on future litters they produce. It is not required but can be a valuable sales tool for the breeder by providing this reassuring information to the person purchasing an animal.
Is DNA certification mandatory?
Not from the general population of pets or breeding stock. We do however require that animals being exhibited in sanctioned shows have a DNA sample on file and we reserve the right to DNA animals when parentage is questioned or could be used as a tool to resolve other disputes.
Will United All Breed Registry® dual register animals from other registries?
Yes, if the purebred animals has a registration paper from a record service that maintains a system having requirements, ethics, and business practices which give the consumer a high degree of assurance they are receiving a pure bred animal. The record service should also have a source other than itself from which genealogical information is readily available. You simply send us a copy of the registration paper with your request for dual registration. If the copy includes studbook numbers we will research and provide you with a pedigree. If the copy does not include studbook numbers we request 3 or more generations of professionally produced pedigree information also be included. If the other record service does not provide studbook numbers and you are unable to provide pedigree information the capability to dual register your animals will be determined by a review committee and their ability to research known databases for your pedigree information.
What does it cost to register my adult animals?
The standard fee is published on applications. We do however offer discounts to those registering 5 or more adult animals, those who have breeder membership, and those registering sire and/or dam with a litter application. Please contact our office for these special discounts.
What is the Homeward Bound Microchip by Avid?
The microchip is a tiny computer chip that has an identification number programmed into it and is encapsulated within a biocompatible material. The whole device is small enough to fit inside a hypodermic needle and can be simply injected under the skin of our pets where it will stay for the life of the animal. This provides a permanent, positive identification that cannot be lost, altered or removed - a safe, simple and inexpensive way to protect your pet against loss or theft.
How does the Homeward Bound Microchip by Avid work?
The computer memory in the Microchip by Avid contains a unique number - no two animals will ever have the same number. A radio signal is used to read this number through the skin of your pet. In addition to the number, the microchip generates a reliability check to guarantee that your pet's identifying number is read accurately.
How much does the injection cost?
If you are comfortable with giving a vaccination you will be able to follow the enclosed instructions and inject the chip yourself. If you are more comfortable having it set by your retailer or veterinarian. We have heard fees ranging from $25 to $40 depending on the area of the practice and what other services are being offered. Many retailers or veterinarians provide a discount if your pet is identified at the time of purchase or while in for routine grooming, surgery, dental work, or vaccinations. The fee is certainly less than the cost of trying to locate a lost pet. The cost of printing and hanging fliers, placing ads and rewards, calling shelters, and taking time off of work can be substantial. Not to mention the anguish and worry or worse...the heartbreak of being too late.
How long does the Homeward Bound Microchip by Avid last?
Once injected under the skin of your pet, the Microchip by Avid becomes encased by a thin layer of protein that anchors it in place for the rest of the life of your pet. It does not pass through or out of the body. The microchip itself has no power supply to replace or moving parts to wear down. Therefore, it can be expected to last for decades - well beyond the lifespan of most pets.
What is the youngest age a pet can be identified?
Animals of any age can be injected with the Homeward Bound Microchip by Avid. Puppies and kittens are identified during their initial vaccine series. Birds, horses and exotics can be identified at any time.
My pets never leave my yard. Why should they be identified with a Homeward Bound Microchip by Avid?
It only takes one time for the mailman, gardener, meter reader, neighbor or friend to leave the gate open or the door ajar. Unaltered pets in particular have a desire to roam. Pet theft is also a daily occurrence. Well-behaved pets are sold for research. Animals such as purebreds, birds and exotics are valuable and are stolen for resale. Even horses are frequently stolen and sold for slaughter. Most shelters destroy the majority of pets they impound. They are destroyed only because they are not identified.
Does my pet have to be sedated for the injection?
No! Injecting the Homeward Bound Microchip by Avid is just like any other injection or vaccination. Anesthesia is not required or recommended since there is minimal discomfort with the procedure.
Does the procedure of injecting the Homeward Bound Microchip by Avid hurt my pet?
Not at all. The injection creates only a slight discomfort - most pets don't even react to it. The microchip is encapsulated in a specially formulated biocompatible material created specifically for this kind of application.
Could my pet be allergic to the Homeward Bound Microchip by Avid?
The Microchip by Avid is inert and biocompatible. There is virtually no chance of the body developing an allergy or trying to reject the microchip after being properly injected.

If my pet is found, how does the shelter know to contact me?
When a shelter finds a pet with a microchip they will contact Avid PETtrac And/Or United Pet Registry. If the pet is registered, the shelter will be given the owner's name.
What is Homeward Bound?
Homeward Bound is a global computerized tracking system for companion animals identified with the United Pet Registry Homeward Bound Microchip by Avid. When you become a member, Homeward Bound can reunite your pets directly with you.
What is the cost to register in the Homeward Bound Program?
You pay a one-time fee of $15.00 for a single pet. There are no annual fees. There is, however, a $6.00 charge for information changes (i.e. address). Change of ownership requires a new registration.
What is the United Pet Registry / Avid 'Breeder Reader'?
