Can I fax in my application to register?

No. We need the original application in our office before we can issue a registration certificate. We advise that you make a copy of both sides for your records before mailing it.

How long will it take to get my certificate?

Usually you will receive your certificate within 4-6 weeks. If you need it rushed, please call our office and we will do our best to meet your needs. If you have a litter to register with it, we will process it within 5 working days.

Will I get my animal’s pedigree back?

Yes, your completed certificate will include all of the pedigree information you see on the application.

What is the difference between United All Breed Registry and other animal registries?

The main difference between registries is the quality and variety of services offered. We are the only registry in the U.S. that publishes an animal’s pedigree (up to 4 generations) on its application at the point of sale. We believe that the price paid to register an animal includes the cost of researching that animal’s pedigree, so that information does not belong to us. It is of most use to the prospective pet buyer, so we put it on the animal’s application, and then repeat it on the completed registration certificate. To better meet the needs of our customers, we also offer special divisions for the registration of purebred felines (United Feline Association), offspring of two different purebred dog breeds (United Designer Dog Division), rare breeds and canines certified by another registry that do not have pedigrees available (Import and Rare Breed Division) and even ownership certificates for pets for which proof of breed is not attainable (United Pet Records). As of winter 2005, we will also have a new subsidiary division for pet owners and breeders in Canada (United Pet Records of Canada). To see samples of our unique paperwork, click on these links: Sample Registration Application (Front, Back) , Sample Certificate (Front, Back).

I lost my original application. Can I still register my pet?

If you retained a copy of both sides, or can obtain the necessary information from the seller’s records, we may be able to register your pet. We would also need to see proof of purchase (bill of sale, purchase agreement or similar document). If applicable, we would also need a vet to scan the dog’s microchip number and sign a statement that this number is correct. Please contact our office if your original has been lost and we will do our best to work it out.

Can a pet registered with United also be registered at another registry?

Yes. Your pet can be dual-registered at as many registries and associations as you like. Please be advised though, that the American Kennel Club (AKC) is an exclusive registry; if your pet did not come to you with an application to the AKC, you will not be able to dual register it there with one of our certificates.

Can I show my United-registered dog at AKC shows?

If you have purchased a purebred dog that cannot be registered with the AKC, it may be accepted into certain events under their Indefinite Listing Privilege. An ILP dog may be accepted into Agility Trials, Earthdog Trials, Junior Showmanship, Obedience Trials, etc. For further information, contact AKC, PO Box 37933, Raleigh NC 27627-7933.

How does United verify that my pet’s pedigree is correct?

While we cannot witness every mating that occurs, we do require that anyone registering a litter with us comply with our Code of Ethics and sign a statement that the information provided to us is valid and not misleading. We revoke registration privileges if we find that a breeder has provided us with erroneous or misleading information. When we are given the names of a sire and dam for a litter, we build the remainder of the pedigree ourselves, using AKC studbooks and other reliable sources of published information.

What do I do if I have a problem with my pet?

Your first step is to seek a resolution with the person or business from whom you purchased the animal. A quality breeder or retailer will sell animals with a health guarantee and a return/refund policy. Please also notify us of the nature of the problem. If your pet is not yet registered, we will need to know the breed and litter number in order to locate the record in our files. We and our breeders appreciate feedback that could improve the quality of the animals being produced, and we certainly want to know if a breeder has been misrepresenting information on their applications to us. When a complaint comes to our attention, we send a formal notice to the breeder and, if necessary, will red-flag their files in our system. We can revoke privileges of breeders that are not in compliance with our regulations and Code of Ethics. Our liability, however, is limited to the correction of erroneous information or the refunding of registration fees.

Can I register my other pets with United as well?

If your animals have registration certificates or applications issued by another reliable registry, you can send us a copy with the usual registration fee ($18.00) and we will be happy to dual-register them in whichever division is appropriate. If the animal is unregistered, we can offer you an ownership certificate (no pedigree) with our United Pet Records division. If this is the case, please fill out one of our Dual Registration Applications.

How do I register offspring from my United pet?

First, fill out one of our Litter Registration Applications when the puppies or kittens are born. Both the sire (father) and dam (mother) will need to be registered with us, so if one is not, please send a copy of the paperwork you have on it; this could be a registration certificate or an application issued by another acceptable registry. The owners of both parent animals must also sign the Litter Registration Application. The fee is $10 for the litter registration (any number of pups/kittens) and $18 each for the registration of sire and/or dam (if you have 5 or more breeding dams, our discounted rates may apply). If you had not sent in your United applications for the adults yet, you can do so at this time. You will receive an application for each puppy/kitten, which should be given to the new owners at the time of sale. You will also receive a Litter Record form; please use this to keep a record of the name and address of each new owner, any microchips inserted in the puppies/kittens and other pertinent information about each animal.

How do I add health information to my pet’s certificate?

Have your veterinarian fill out our Health Certification Form. We will add this information to your pet’s permanent record at no extra charge. It will appear on their new certificate, as well as on the applications of any offspring they produce.

What is a microchip?

It is a tiny computer chip that has an identification number programmed into it and is encapsulated within a biocompatible protein coating that anchors it in place. It is smaller than a grain of rice, and fits inside of a hypodermic needle to be inserted. It will remain in place for the rest of the life of your pet. It has no power supply or moving parts and will never need replacing or repair.

How does a microchip work?

The computer memory in the microchip contains a unique number. No two animals will ever have the same number. A radio signal is used to read the number through the skin of your pet, using a simple handheld device. In addition to the number, the microchip generates a reliability check to guarantee that your pet’s identifying number has been read accurately.

How does the PETtrac Animal Recovery System reunite me with my pet?

When the microchip has been scanned and read, the shelter or veterinarian will contact Avid PETtrac or United All Breed Registry. If you have registered the microchip in your name, they will be given all of the information that you provided and you will be contacted. PETtrac records over 700 recoveries daily in the United States.

How old does my puppy or kitten need to be before it gets microchipped?

Animals of any age can be injected with a microchip. Puppies and kittens are normally microchipped during their initial vaccine series. Birds, horses and exotics can be identified at any time.

My pets never leave my property. Why should they be microchipped?

Most lost and stolen pets were last seen in their own yard. It only takes one time for the mailman, gardener, meter reader or neighbor to leave the gate open or the door ajar. Unaltered pets, in particular, have a desire to roam. Pet theft is a regular occurrence. Many are sold for research. Valuable purebreds are stolen for resale. Most shelters destroy the majority of the pets that they impound, only because they cannot be identified.

How is the microchip inserted?

It is injected just under the skin, in the area of loose skin behind the shoulders. Anesthesia is not required or recommended. The animal experiences only minimal discomfort with the procedure. If you are comfortable with giving normal injections to your animals, you can inject it yourself at home. Or, you have your veterinarian or other animal care professional inject it.

Do most shelters have a way to read the microchip number?

United All Breed Registry and Avid have teamed up to offer an innovative program for placing readers in shelters at no cost to the shelter or the taxpayer. Area retailers, breeders, veterinarians and United All Breed are donating readers to shelters if they will promise to check every animal for a microchip before destroying it or adopting it out. At present, more than 35,000 readers have been donated.

Could my pet be allergic to the microchip?

No. The chip is inert and biocompatible. There is virtually no possibility of the animal’s body developing an allergy to or trying to reject a properly injected microchip.

What does it cost to microchip my pet?

The chip itself (in ready-to-use syringe) sells in our online store for $18.00 Registration of a chip already in your animal costs $15. Click on Avid PETtrac Application Form on our Forms page to print out your application. We also offer a combination price of the microchip and a pre-paid PETtrac registration for only $30. If you must make changes to your registered information in the future, there is a $6.00 fee. There are no annual dues or membership fees.

Do breeders get discounted rates on services at United?

Yes. If you have 5 or more breeding females, we will process your registrations and transfers of ownership for only $5.00. If we receive an animal’s application or transfer along with an application for a litter by that animal, there is no charge at all for registration or transfer. Litter registrations are $10 for everyone at all times, regardless of the number of puppies.

Is there a special discount when registering my entire kennel?

Yes. Our Kennel Credit program allows for a one-time registration of an entire kennel. You pay the usual breeder fee of $5.00 per animal to register them, and you are given a credit in our system equal to the total amount spent. This credit may be applied to future litter registrations.

Can I register a litter online?

Yes. If both the sire and dam of the litter are already fully registered with one of our United divisions, you can submit an Online Litter Application.

How do I register a litter if the sire and/or dam are not yet registered with United?

You can print out a Litter Application Form and either mail or fax it to us along with ownership certificates for the animals that are not yet registered with United. The sire/dam will be registered for free with the litter if you qualify for our breeder rates. You can also fax or mail any pedigree information you have on the sire/dam. You MUST mail in the order if it includes the registration or transfer of a United-registered dog. We do not accept copies or faxes of our own paperwork. For more information on dual-registering animals from other registries, see below.

Will United dual-register animals from any other registry?

If the purebred animal has a registration paper or application from a registry that maintains a system of requirements, ethics and business practices that give the customer a high degree of assurance that the animal they are receiving is purebred, we will accept their paperwork. The registry should have a source other than itself from which genealogical information is readily available. If we can, we will build a full pedigree of the animal from the data provided, using stud books. If we could complete a pedigree by purchasing information elsewhere, we will research the cost and call you to offer that option. If we cannot complete the pedigree, we will register the animal and its litters on our Import and Rare Breed Division. To dual-register, simply send us a copy of the animal’s certificate or application along with any professionally prepared pedigree information that you have and the appropriate fee.

Can I register a dog and its litter if I don’t have a pedigree for it?

If your sire or dam is registered with another acceptable registry but all you know is the name of its sire and dam, we will register this dog and its litter in our Import and Rare Breed Division. This division is used for purebred animals that have ancestors with another association but have limited pedigree information available because a) their registry service has discontinued publishing stud books or b) it does not make pedigrees readily available or c) it does not publish pedigrees.

How long does it take to get my offspring papers back?

We normally complete litter orders within 5 working days. Call us if you need your order rushed and we will do our best to meet your needs.

Can I fax in my United registration applications and transfers?

No. They must be mailed and we must have the original in our files before we can issue new registrations on United-registered litters or new certificates on United-registered adults.

Are papers from United All Breed widely accepted?

Yes. Ours are the only applications in the world that display 4 generations of pedigree at no extra cost. Though we are not as well known yet as the AKC in all areas of the country, our documents are well-respected everywhere they go, which now includes parts of Canada and Mexico as well as most U.S. markets.

Is there a breeder discount on microchips?

Yes. We sell a canister of 25 microchips at a discounted rate of $6.50 per chip.

Does United inspect my facilities?

No. That is the job of the USDA. If you qualify to be a Gold Label Pets breeder (requiring an annual inspection by a veterinarian) we will print this certification on each puppy paper issued for your kennel.

Are health certifications or DNA testing required to register a litter?

No. Both are optional. Health certification of breeding stock is important. For that reason, we will publish various health certifications on your animals’ certificates when it is provided to us, at no extra charge. It then appears on the papers of offspring produced as well. While this is not required, it is valuable to the purchaser. As for DNA, we only require samples of dogs that champion in our sanctioned shows.

What records do I have to keep for United?

We require accurate records of the birth date of the litter and number of surviving males and females, as well as name of sire and dam. We provide you with a Litter Record form as well, so that you can keep track of each individual puppy or kitten… name and address of buyer, the number of its microchip, color and markings, etc. We require that you complete and file this form on each litter, or otherwise record the same information in your own system.

Is a supplemental transfer form available?

Yes. Our Supplemental Transfer form is on the Forms page of this site, or you can request one to be mailed, faxed or emailed to you from our office.

Do I have to put my credit card number on my faxed applications?

No. You can provide the card number to us over the telephone. Once it is in our computer (encrypted), you can simply write “use card on file” on your future faxed applications.

Can I register dogs I have imported from another country?

Yes. We will need to see a copy of the printed Export Pedigree that should have come with the dog AND we will need a copy of a sale document proving that you legally obtained the dog, if your name is not pre-printed on the export paper.

Can I register a litter produced by a mix of two different breeds?

Not in our regular Blue Ribbon Division. But, yes, we have a special division called the United Designer Dog Division for litters that are purposely bred from parents or ancestors of different breeds. The goal is to produce offspring with genetic diversity and desirable traits from both breeds. Both parents must be registered with United. The puppy applications will show up to 3 generations of pedigree and every dog in the pedigree will show the name of its breed as well.
