Free Reader Placement - USA - Shelter Program

In order to provide the best possible service, we are offering a free reader placement program. The purpose of the program is to improve the probability of recovering a pet that has been permanently identified with the United Registry / Homeward Bound Chip by Avid. Since many animals that are lost will end up at a shelter, United Registry will provide a Microchip Reader free of charge to a qualifying shelter.

In order for your shelter to qualify, only two criteria must be met:

• A pet retailer or veterinarian must purchase a Professional Homeward Bound Retrieval System and use it actively to identify animals. They may then designate a shelter to receive a free reader.
• The designated shelter must promise to scan all animals upon admission and prior to euthanasia, placement or sale. This promise must be a commitment letter written on the shelter's letterhead, addressed to United Registry. (If needed, contact United Registry Sales Dept. for example.)

That is all that is required. Once we receive the shelter's letter we will send the free Microchip Reader to the sponsoring retailer or veterinarian or, if you desire, directly to the shelter.

Several sponsors have been able to get additional public relations benefit by donating the free reader to the shelter and having this event covered by local television and newspaper.

• You and your staff can promote this service by informing your clients that the shelter has a reader and is committed to scanning all animals.
• Your image will be one of a progressive retailer or veterinarian using state-of-the-art equipment.
• Your individual animal record keeping will be improved and facilitated. This is even more critical if you offer a HMO, health insurance, or puppy and kitten packages.

• Anyone who has ever lost a pet can attest to the emotional distress as well as the real expense incurred trying to recover their pet. Time off work to call the shelter, make flyers, call veterinarians, mail flyers, visit the shelters, and so forth. Recovery efforts can easily burn up hundreds of dollars. (We can't even try to place a dollar value on the emotional distress.)
• Since your staff can offer the service by explaining that the shelter is scanning all animals, your client compliance will obviously be high.
• Once a recovery is made using the United Registry / Homeward Bound Chip by Avid, you will be identified by that client to dozens of friends as the provider of a great service.
